Prayagraj: The grand and divine Maha Kumbh 2025, held in the sacred city of Prayagraj since January 13, has set an unparalleled record with over 65 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Mahashivratri, marking the final bathing day of the festival.

By 8 AM on Wednesday morning, millions had already immersed themselves in the sacred waters, etching Maha Kumbh 2025 into history as the largest religious gathering ever witnessed. No other event worldwide has attracted such a massive congregation in such a short span, making the temporary city built along the Sangam one of the largest human settlements in the world. The number of devotees surpasses the population of several countries combined.

65 Crore Devotees Unite in Faith

In a remarkable display of faith and unity, over 65 crore bathed at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The event underscores the deep-rooted spiritual and cultural significance of Maha Kumbh, bringing together people from all walks of life in a celebration of Sanatan Dharma.

Never before in history has such a massive gathering taken place in one location. The overwhelming participation highlights the unwavering devotion, determination, and faith of the pilgrims, who have traveled from far and wide to take part in this sacred ritual.

A Gathering Bigger Than Entire Nations

To put this staggering number in perspective, the crowd at Maha Kumbh 2025 exceeds the total population of the United States twice over, is more than 2.5 times the population of Pakistan, and four times that of Russia. It is also five times the population of Japan, ten times that of the UK, and fifteen times that of France.

This spiritual congregation has drawn devotees not only from across India but also from around the globe. If compared to India’s population, the number of devotees at the Sangam equates to almost 50% of the country’s total population. Among the followers of Sanatan Dharma, more than 60% of Indian Hindus and around 55% of global Sanatanis have participated in this grand religious event.

Maha Kumbh 2025: A Global Spiritual Event

Devotees from across the world have flocked to Prayagraj, making this festival a truly global spectacle. Diplomats from 73 nations, along with esteemed international guests such as Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, were present to witness and partake in the spiritual grandeur. Nepal also saw a large contingent of over 5 million devotees, reflecting the festival’s cross-border religious significance.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s Prediction Surpassed

Before the commencement of the Maha Kumbh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had predicted that the festival would attract at least 45 crore devotees. However, the final turnout far exceeded expectations, reaffirming the immense pull of the world’s largest religious gathering.

With the divine confluence of faith, tradition, and culture, Maha Kumbh 2025 has not only created history but also set a new benchmark in religious and spiritual gatherings worldwide.
